Every Jewish wedding begins with some sort of invocation. Typically it includes the words, Bruchim habaim b’shem Adonai, berachnu hem m’beit Adonai (Welcome are those that come in the name of God, blessed are those from the house of God).

When my wife, Rabbi Loren Filson Lapidus, and I had the honor of officiating at my brother and sister-in-law’s wedding several years ago we set those words to music. And to those words we added another Biblical passage that we love: Zeh dodi v’zeh re-ih (this is my beloved, this is my friend).

I often have the joy of accompanying my wife as she officiates weddings. Every time she sings this beautiful melody I become increasingly convinced that every Jewish wedding should include this simple, elegant, and evocative melody.

If you are a wedding officiant or planning your own wedding and would like the sheet music please let me know. I’m happy to send it to you.
